Katia Lifshin
*1993, Ukraine; lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel
Katia Lifshin’s paintings unfold as psychologically charged, dreamlike scenes populated by elongated figures, strange organisms, and shifting natural environments. Rather than describing a fixed reality, she uses the body as a site of transformation, placing her subjects in moments of suspension, adaptation, and emotional instability. Her imagery moves freely between the intimate and the surreal, often borrowing from botanical forms, underwater worlds, bioluminescence, and altered states of perception. Through fluid compositions and luminous, frequently nocturnal palettes, Lifshin creates spaces where vulnerability and resilience coexist. The resulting works feel simultaneously personal and otherworldly, translating states of desire, isolation, anxiety, and change into images that hover between narrative and hallucination.
